About This Photo:
This limpkin is enjoying his favorite delicious escargot snack, specifically an invasive red apple snail.
It is fascinating watching these birds carefully sift through wetland vegetation, carefully moving one step at a time. Wetland areas are often littered with shells of red apple snails that have been eaten by limpkins. Between their brown color and the way they hunt for their prey, limpkins remind me of mammals such as squirrels or even dogs.
